Buying Beads Online

An every growing and popular craft that people are becoming fond of these days is the art of beading.  Beading is an ancient and historic craft that actually traces back in time to people like the ancient Egyptians and more recently Native Americans.  The number of different items that can be produced from beading is limited only by your imagination.  Whether you’re looking to make toys, bracelets, necklaces or even religious artefacts, it’s really simple to do with beads.

To get started with your beading, first you need to buy your beads. In days gone by, this meant a trip to a local craft shop (often only found in larger towns or and cities), to buy your beads in person. However, thankfully, almost all of this can now be done online instead. Buying beads online, especially for those lacking a local craft shop, is easy, convenient and very cost effective. Not only is it far more convenient to order beads online rather than driving to the shop, buying online opens up a huge range of choice, with all kinds of different beads from around the world, and sometimes exclusive beads that would be nearly impossible to find in person are easily found and bought online.

Top Tips for Buying Beads Online

1) Know what you are looking for before you start.  With so much choice available online, it is all-to-easy to get sidetracked into buying something pretty, that you might struggle to use.  Have a clear project in mind when shopping and remain focused on sourcing only the exact items and beads you need to complete this particular item.  Online shopping engines, such as Google Shopping, are your friend here as they allow you to search thousands of online vendors very quickly.  It might take a bit of time, but staying focused will pay off in the end.

2) Don’t buy blind.  It may sound obvious, but you really need to ensure that the beads you are ordering actually match the pictures of the product that an online retailer is selling.  It’s fairly common for online shops to use old, or stock photos (usually due to time constraints when listing their products) which can lack accuracy.  This is where the local craft shop wins until you find a good online retailer that whose accuracy you can trust.

When shopping in person, you can simply look at and stuffy the beads close up, carefully check their colour, size and texture.  Don’t be afraid to contact online sellers to make certain that what they’re selling exactly matches what you’re looking for.  A good bead seller will be more than happy to make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for.

3) Check the online bead shop’s shipping policy. How much will shipping be? Do they delivery to your town or country (you can often get great deals when buying beads from abroad, but double-check they’re happy to shop to you before ordering). If there is a flat rate for delivery, consider buying in bulk.  This can bring down your cost-per-bead hugely, so is well worth considering.

4) What payment methods does the online store accept? As obvious as it seems, not all online shops (particularly smaller niche places such as those selling beads) accept all of the most commonly found methods of payment.  If you’re looking to pay with PayPal for example, a quick check before creating your order can save a lot of frustration later on.
